WHY MONDAY NIGHTS?
The summer of 2008 was special. We came together as theatre artists, friends and colleagues, and every Monday night from 10pm to midnight, we played basketball – a game we loved. That summer, Monday night basketball became ritual and the game became sacred ceremony. We came as individuals with very different things happening in our lives: dealing with a broken heart, falling in love, becoming a parent, wanting to be one of the boys and looking for an escape. By the end, we realized that we had been transformed by this ritual. We experienced communion with each other and with ourselves. We reawakened the child in each of us. We reconnected with a sense of play, the value of competition and were reminded of the camaraderie of being on a team. We went on a journey from being isolated individuals to being part of a supportive community. We invite you to take this journey with us through Monday Nights.

ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
Using the forms of basketball and theatre, we seek to explore the nature of both sport and art and the ways they help us move from individual to community.
The impulse for Monday Nights is the same impulse behind the devotion each of us had to Monday night basketball – the desire for transformation, connection and community. Through the sharing of our individual stories and the structural form of Monday Nights, we seek to create a piece that provides you with an opportunity to connect with others and re-connect with your self in personal and surprising ways.

Our goal is to create an atmosphere that encourages you to move beyond the traditional performer/spectator boundaries and literally step onstage with us. We aim to create an environment safe and supportive enough to allow you to take risks and add your own stories to our communal experience. In Monday Nights, we invite you to move from passive spectator to active co-creator of the piece.
